YOU ARE CALLED TO THE MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD
By Dan Luehrs
"YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK" (Hebrews 5:6).
that this verse is speaking about Jesus Christ being in the order of
Melchizedek. But is there a deeper meaning for us who are called His
"BODY?" Certainly you would have to agree that if any person is
called to an office of leadership, his head along with his body would do the
same functions of work together. So it is with Christ, we are one body with
Him, we shall be even as He is! Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has
not appeared as yet what we shall be. "We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we
shall see Him just as He is" (1
When people think of Christ they think of one person, but Christ is a multimember body. "For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:12). Do you see it? So also is Christ, one body! "Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it" (1 Corinthians 12:27). He works through His body, so His body must take part in the Melchizedek priesthood together. Now how do we prepare for such a high calling?
WE MUST ENTER WITHIN THE VEIL
"This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek" (Hebrews 6:19-20).
must be one that enters within the veil of the Holy of Holies where Jesus is.
This must be our anchor and foundation of our lives that is rooted and grounded
in the promises of God to enter in with Him. We have not entered in to this
realm as yet, we have entered the
understand that the Holy of Holies is where the Father abides in His fullness,
this is the place of His consuming fire, which is the life, love, and the power
of God. The life of God was the tree of life in the garden when Adam and Eve
sinned; God drove them out and placed His angel at the tree of life to guard it
with a flaming sword so that they could not eat of it. And so it was with the
way in to the Holy of Holies, it was guarded by angel's woven into the veil to
block all people from coming in. Only the High Priest could enter once a year.
But he had to have a change of garments, (garments of holiness
Jesus has been made unto us, the Way, through salvation, the 30-fold of God. Jesus is the Truth, Pentecost, and the 60-fold of God. Jesus is the Life, Tabernacles, and the 100-fold life of God. The whole Church age is found in the Tabernacle in the wilderness and in the three main Feasts of Israel. We must seek God for His wisdom that we would not be without understanding.
that Jesus has entered as a forerunner. A forerunner is one that goes before as
a scout to clear the way for others to follow after, He is bringing many sons
in to the glory. (See
HOW DO WE BECOME LIKE MELCHIZEDEK
"For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually" (Hebrews 7:1-3).
How did Jesus enter in? "Having become a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." What does Melchizedek have to do with Him and us entering in? He was the king of peace. This speaks to us because if we want to enter in we to must be found in peace at His coming. "Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless" (2 Peter 3:14). He was also the king of righteousness. This also speaks to us about living righteously before the whole world that serves the wicked one.
Melchizedek's life is one of mystery, no beginning and no ending. As it is with the sons of God. "To whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). "Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:51). Yes, we too are mysterious, no death!
"For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests. And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. For it is attested of Him, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK" (Hebrews 7:14-17).
According to these verses Jesus had no right under Jewish law for Him to become the High Priest because He was not born of the tribe of Levi. But God had even a higher order for Him and us to fulfill. It was the order of Melchizedek, an indestructible life. An endless life. Yes this is Jesus, but it is also His body! "And (HE) hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (Revelation 1:6). Do you see, we like Melchizedek are all kings and priest unto our God. This is the priesthood of all believers to minister unto God and kingship to reign with Him through all eternity. The Old Testament High Priests ran according to bloodline. And so it is with us, we are in the lineage of Jesus Christ and now follow Him into the same ministry.
"The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit
at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet." The
LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from
These verses are not just speaking about Jesus, but His body also. He is the head in heaven; we are His feet company on earth to tread under foot His enemies. "How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, "Your God reigns" (Isaiah 52:7)! He is waiting until His enemies are under His feet. "But He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET" (Hebrews 10:12-13).
WE MUST ENTER INTO THE HOLY OF HOLIES WITH JESUS
"So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him" (Hebrews 9:28).
The Amplified Bible says; "(He will) bring to "FULL" salvation those who are waiting for and expecting Him." This full salvation will be spirit, soul, and body in His exact likeness. "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Many people use this verse to say that Jesus is coming a second time to this earth, but that is not what this verse is saying. If we read the verses before it, it plainly states that He is going to enter the Holy of Holies a second time with His prepared ones and they will ever be like Him in His fullness. Read carefully verses 24-27.
"For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:24-27).
it says in verse 26 that He has entered once
to do away with sin. Then verse 28 says that He will appear a second time in the Holy of Holies not to
deal with sin any more, but to bring full salvation to all those who are
eagerly waiting for this glorious appearance in His saints. "When He comes to be glorified in His
saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed-- for
our testimony to you was believed" (2 Thessalonians 1:10). If He came in
us through salvation, and then came in us again with the down payment of His
Holy Spirit through Pentecost. Why would He not manifest Himself in us through
the full redemption of the Holy Spirit by His appearing in us?
We must continue to eagerly await His coming with great expectation and holiness if we hope to be glorified with Him.
