THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB

By Dan Luehrs

"And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, (no mixture) coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb" (Revelation 22:1).

God's throne is in us, for He dwells in us. We are His temple. "And there shall no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His bond-servants shall serve Him" (Revelation 22:3). -- "The LORD is in His holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven (spirit)…" (Psalms 11:4). His throne will be in us, the New Jerusalem.

"And they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads" (Revelation 22:4).

When Moses came down from the mountain his face shone with the glory of God because he was in His glorious presence and the Lord was speaking to him there. The Bible does not say any other body parts shone with the glory, only his face. I believe this very significant because we will see Jesus face to face, "And they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads" (Revelation 22:4). His face is where the glory comes from, "For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ"  (2 Corinthians 4:6). We now behold the glory of the Father in the face of Jesus.

"And there shall no longer be any night; and they shall not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God shall illumine them; and they shall reign forever and ever" (Revelation 22:5).

When the fires of the tribulation have finished their work in man and the man of sin has been destroyed, the sun, moon, and stars will be darkened. This is the second heaven revelation of the mind. The natural understanding, the carnal and deceptive thoughts, and works of flesh will be demolished. This is why the New Jerusalem (who we are) will have no need of the sun and moon, because we will have God's full revelation of truth flowing in and through us. For in God there is no darkness at all. "But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken" (Matthew 24:29).

"Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done" (Revelation 22:12).

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. "For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it. "For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and will then recompense every man according to his deeds" (Matthew 16:24-27).

Jesus said that He is coming in glory to repay every person. But with what will He repay them? Money, fame, or mansions? I think not. These are all worldly possessions that worldly people seek after. But those of His Spirit know that there is something greater to inherit. I tell you openly that He is coming to repay all the faithful according to their deeds with the fullness of His glory, (His nature). Listen to the words of Paul, "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:17-18). Very clearly Paul says that we will receive His glory as our inheritance when He comes. There is no greater reward in all of God's creation then His glory. Our reward is to have the fullness of Him! "… Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward" (Genesis 15:1 KJV).

Jesus is coming in great glory to reward us with His glory, which is His nature, a consuming fire! "And to the eyes of the sons of Israel the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountain top" (Exodus 24:17). -- "I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD…" (Ezekiel 1:27-28). What was the appearance of His glory? Fire! "And of the angels He says, "Who makes His angels winds, and His ministers a flame of fire (or ministers of glory fire, God's nature)" (Hebrews 1:7).

In Matthew 16:24, we have the blueprint in receiving His glory: we must deny living for self, pick up our cross, and follow Him wherever He goes. This is not an easy calling, but it will be well worth it in the days of His glory. Carrying our cross is no easy matter; it is the way of death to the self-nature, our self-centeredness and idolatry. To carry our cross is one thing, but to die upon it, is another. Crucifixion is a slow death. This is why we must pick up our cross daily, to die daily upon it. Daily! How are we to do this? By obeying His leading and not our own selfish ways. The Holy Spirit will always lead us to the cross, which is death to self. Read the words of Paul carefully. "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me" (Galatians 2:20). How did Paul live his life? By faith in the Son of God! The life of faith will always be a cross that brings death to self because we must continually trust Him for all things. The Holy Spirit will always lead you to the cross. We are not just to get saved by faith; we are to live by faith! The life of faith is a cross that God gives you to carry. You can either reject it or accept it. He will not make you carry it! God may tell you to relocate somewhere you will not like to be, or He may tell you to get a certain job or even to go without a job. Your flesh will have a fit! This is your cross to carry to the destruction of your flesh. It took me years to understand that when God was telling me to do something that I did not like, it was only for my good. It was a door that He wanted me to go through. The doorway was very dark and uninviting at first until I could see that God had a greater blessing in store then I could imagine. Being obedient to God when we don't feel like it will always bring death to self. When self is dead, then and only then can we handle the greater blessings of God. For it is only through suffering that we shall inherit the glory of Jesus Christ. "… Jesus, (because of) the suffering of death crowned with glory…" (Hebrews 2:9). -- "Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory" (Luke 24:26)? If Jesus needed to suffer to enter His glory, how much more us?

If we hold on to this worldly saying, "I did it my way," we will surely lose everything that we have worked for in life. But on the other hand, if we give our life to follow Christ, we will gain our life and much more! "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory" (Colossians 3:3-4). Jesus is now hidden from the world's eyes. Where is He hidden? Inside of you and me! Jesus is already on the earth; He is hiding in us and we are hidden in Him. But one day, He is going to show Himself openly to the whole world through His people. Notice how we will be revealed, in GLORY! Hallelujah!!

In Matthew 16:26 Jesus said, "For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" In other words, we can gain nothing in this life that will last through eternity. That which is done through our own will and way will crumble. The average person on earth is working to gain profit. For what? Only to lose it at death! Jesus said it will not last; they are building out of sand. "And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth" (Luke 12:15 KJV).

What will profit us through eternity? Being obedient to Him in all things. "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and will then recompense (repay) every man according to his deeds" (Matthew 16:27). Jesus is coming to repay all those who have been obedient to Him. There is no better repayment plain in the whole universe!  It is no wonder why He said in John 6:27, "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man shall give to you, for on Him the Father, even God, has set His seal." Why would Moses give up all the treasures of Egypt? "Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward" (Hebrews 11:26 KJV). The word "respect" means that he looked away from anything else that would try to mislead him and steal the reward from him. And this is what we must do to receive His reward as well!
