THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST

By Dan Luehrs

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John" (Revelation 1:1).

When most people think of the revelation of Jesus Christ, they think of "The Book of Revelation" and the entire end-time events that will be played out upon the earth. I believe there is a greater and much deeper understanding of this. We need to understand that "The Book of Revelation" is just that: a book about the revealing or unveiling of the person of Jesus Christ in, and though His people. The word "revelation" in the Greek means: "take the cover off and look in." In other words, to see or understand what and who the person of Jesus Christ is. The definition from the dictionary says this about the word "revelation:" "The act of revealing or disclosing. b. Something revealed especially a dramatic disclosure of something not previously known or realized. 2.  A manifestation of divine will or truth."

Peter had a wonderful revelation of Jesus when he said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 16:16-17). The full revelation of who Jesus is, is not so much a one-time event, as it is a lifetime of the unfolding and revealing of Himself in and through His people. Although, I do believe that there will come a day when Jesus will be manifested in and to His people very quickly in the twinkle of the eye.

PAUL'S REVELATION

"For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ" (Galatians 1:12). God, "…Was pleased to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood" (Galatians 1:15b,16).

Paul received much revelation about who Jesus is. Notice what he calls this revelation that he was receiving: "A revelation of Jesus Christ." We must understand that he did not receive it out of thin air, but from the Holy Spirit, the Old Testament, and the Prophets. He said in Acts 26:22, "… I stand this day testifying both to small and great, stating nothing but what the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place.”  We must get all our revelation from the Bible or we will run amuck into false doctrine. Now notice where this revelation was revealed to Paul. God, "Was pleased to reveal His Son in me." This is where the Father has, designed His Son to be revealed and understood: "IN" us; not our heads, but our hearts! It is the Fathers desire for the Son to reveal the Father unto us. "Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, 'Show us the Father" (John 14:9)? His desire for us is to go from glory (level) to glory (the next level) of knowing Him and experiencing Him.

Paul's desire was for us to have an on-going revelation of Jesus in us, just as he had. He prayed this prayer for us, "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge (Knowing) of Him" (Ephesians 1:17).

Again, in 1 Corinthians 13:9 he writes, "For we know in part, and we prophesy in part." What do we know in part? God! Paul's cry in the Book of Philippians is, "That I might know Him!" It is an on-going revelation of Him that we must seek. "But when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away" (1 Corinthians 13:10). The word perfect means, "complete or fullness." When Jesus is revealed in His fullness, there won't be a need for the partial, which is what we now have, the down payment of His Holy Spirit. "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know (GOD) in part, but then I shall know (GOD) fully just as I also have been fully known" (1 Corinthians 13:12). We are going to see and know Jesus fully, just as He is, when He appears in His fullness in us. "Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is" (1 John 3:2). Not in Heaven, but on earth! Hallelujah!

Since the time of Abraham, God has been revealing Himself to a people that will seek Him throughout the earth. God told Moses in Exodus 6:2-3 that He only revealed Himself as the "Almighty" to Abraham and not as "Lord," while to Moses He revealed Himself as "Lord." God continues to reveal Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ, if we will only seek Him. There is no greater calling! Many Christians have become foolish in thinking that they have all of God, never seeking for more of Him. Then they have the audacity to try and stop others from going forward more deeply into God. All denominations have done this by building doctrinal walls around their people, enslaving them and keeping them from pressing forward into the full revelation of Jesus Christ.

"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law" (Deuteronomy 29:29).

HAVING TREASURE WITHIN

From many of the Scriptures above we can see that God desires us to be rich with the treasures of God's revelation of Himself within us. In fact, there is no greater treasure that we can have in life other than the truths of God's word. Paul said, "To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8). Many Christians today are running after the financial wealth of the world system and calling it God's prosperity, when in fact, it is the devil's prosperity and a great deception. "And the one on whom seed (The Word) was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful" (Matthew 13:22).

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:19-21).

Jesus clearly warns us not to seek after the riches of this world that do not last, but to store up treasures in heaven. Now the question is, "Where is heaven?" To answer that we must say, "Wherever God is!" Simply put, heaven means, "the spirit world," because God is a spirit and that is who dwells within us. We need to see that heaven is not a geographical place, but is a realm that is higher than the physical plain. We know that Satan also dwells in heavenly places. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).

Now if God is in us, that means the heavenly or the spiritual realm is within us; and this is where Jesus said that we are to store up the treasures of His word. For our heart is meant to be the treasure house of God. As you ponder this, read these next verses that Jesus also spoke about this.

"You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. "The good man out of his good treasure brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth what is evil" (Matthew 12:34-35).

"And He said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old" (Matthew 13:52).

"Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you" (2 Timothy 1:14).

Now let me ask you, "What do you have stored up in your treasure house?" Thank God it is never too late to start storing up the truths of God's word by seeking Him with all your heart. You will find Him. He is the greatest treasure, for He is the Word revealed in us! But, we must have a revelation and understanding in what we are studying in the word for it to be a treasure in us. Otherwise, it is just head knowledge and does not abide in the heart. This is why Jesus gave us the parable of the sower:

"Hear then the parable of the sower. "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty" (Matthew 13:18, 23).

According to Jesus, only those who understand the word bear fruit. This is what Paul prayed for the church in Colossians 1:9, "For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding." If we don't understand the word, it is given to another who will take it and run with it. Let's let the word of God find rooting in us, so that it might grow up within us and bring forth one hundredfold for His glory!

WAITING FOR HIS FULL REVELATION IN US

"So that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 1:7).

Paul clearly tells us that a greater revelation of Jesus is coming to us and we are to be eagerly expecting it. Peter and John both spoke of this message as well. We must fix our hope completely on this because it is going to revolutionize each one of us that are eagerly waiting.

"That the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:7).

"But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation" (1 Peter 4:13).

Peter tells us that we are being tried and tested by these trials and tribulations so that we will be ready for the day of His revealing. In fact, he tell us to rejoice in the fires because they are preparing us for that day. "Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:13).

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John" (Revelation 1:1).

THE REVELATION OF TRUTH/LIGHT

"Jesus therefore said to them, "For a little while longer the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. "While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light" (John 12:35-36).

We are to become sons of light/truth. Jesus wants us walking in truth, not just knowing about it; for this is our only foundation to stand on. He is the only truth; no lie has anything to do with truth. The nations and much of the church is not walking in truth and are unable to discern the truth/light. "For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light   (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth)" (Ephesians 5:8-9).

When Jesus appears in His fullness in His saints, He will appear as the great brightness of light/truth in His people that have prepared themselves for that day. This will be the "day" of the Lord. It will no longer be a day of darkness and deception. If we do not possess the truth within our innermost being, the light of the truth will expose the darkness in us. Just like coming out of a dark room into the light, we will have to turn away from it, rather than embracing the light/truth. For the darkness of sin within the heart of man will be destroyed by the brightness of the revelation of Jesus. "And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, (the Word) and shall destroy with the brightness (truth/light) of his coming (presence)" (2 Thessalonians 2:8 KJV). The wickedness and deception in the heart of man has blinded him from the truth. When we do not see things in the light of God's word and in the way He sees them, we are walking in deception. This is about to change!

The words "brightness and appearing" stand for the word "epiphany" meaning, a manifestation of that which has been hidden within that will come forth. What is within us? The truth of the Kingdom of God!  King Jesus will come forth in brightness/truth in that day! "That you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing (brightness of truth/light) of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Timothy 6:14). "I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living (those born again) and the dead, (those unsaved) and by His appearing (in brightness of truth/light) and His kingdom" (2 Timothy 4:1).

Since the fall of man Satan has held man in bondage by the spirit of deception. These lies have become great strongholds in the mind of man. The spirit of religion has been Satan's great weapon with its half-truths even though people think they have the real thing. But when the full revelation of Jesus comes forth in its glorious truth to reveal to people the error of their ways, then the darkness of Satan's lies will be overcome with the light of the truth. The truth will set men free because it will come forth with such clarity and power that a person will either receive or reject the truth on the basis of understanding, not deception. People then can truly repent of their deeds, but only those who are prepared for the revealing of Jesus will be the executors of this great light/truth. For now, the light/truth has been hidden within true believers. But when the full revelation of Jesus comes forth from His people there will be no place to hide. People will either choose light/truth or darkness/lies with those who choose darkness will going into great destruction. But those who choose the light will be purified by its fire/truth that will proceed from Him in His chosen ones. If we are prepared, we will receive the reward of His glory. But if unprepared, we will lose what we have.

"Now if any man builds upon the foundation (that which is in our heart) with gold, silver, precious stones, (love, faith, truth, etc.) wood, hay, straw, (theories of men) each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire; (light/truth) and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire (light/truth)" (1 Corinthians 3:12-15).

We are commanded to walk in the truth/light that we have already received so that we will be ready and cleansed from our habitual sins to be ready for His full revelation of His truth/light in and through us. "For the grace of God has appeared, (giving light/truth now) bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing (the brightness of truth/light) of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus" (Titus 2:11-13).

The absolute truth about Jesus Christ and His Kingdom is about to be revealed to mankind. Every person on earth will see what life/light/truth is, or should I say, Who life is Jesus! He is "Life eternal" in every living thing. Behold, our King comes!
