GOD’S VOICE IS CALLING,
WHERE ARE YOU?
By Dan Luehrs
In the secret place of His presence the Father is calling us to come to Him, but many of God’s people are too busy doing other things that are distracting them from the very glory (love, peace, joy) of heaven. The Father asks, “Where are you?”
“And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." Gen 3:8-10 (KJV)
Many Christians are still hanging around the trees of the garden, which are worldly distractions, philosophy, and religion rather than seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord by eating of the tree of life (Jesus) daily. This is why so many people are running on empty trying to fill their lives with things that do not satisfy. Yet the voice of the Lord goes on calling each of us daily as we walk in the midst of the trees of the garden, to walk closer to the flame of His heart. For if our God is a consuming fire, should we not be also? On fire loving Him and one another! This is our calling, it’s our destiny to change the world.
The voice of the Lord was calling to Adam and Eve but they ran from His presence being convicted of their sin, rather than running to the Lord to seek His forgiveness they hid. This shows that they did not know the goodness of the Lord and His forgiving power that could have set them free from guilt and shame. To know His voice, is to know His presence. If we become familiar with His presence, His voice will become much easier to discern. The voice of the Lord spoke to the children of Israel from the holy mountain but they did not want to hear it, “Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die" Ex 20:19 (NKJV). The voice of the Lord will draw us closer to His presence, but many of us do not want to hear Him calling, so we hide amongst the things of the world instead because that is what we are familiar with.
However, there is a chosen people hidden in the secret place of God’s presence as Moses was hidden in the desert for forty years. Moses stayed in his calling as a shepherd until he heard the voice of the Lord calling him out by the burning bush to leave the desert. The Bible says that he, “Turn aside to look.” We must turn aside every day to see the Lord if we are going to be ready and prepared for His calling and destiny on our life. “When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am" Ex 3:4 (NASU). Are you turning to see His voice in the midst of His fiery presence or is He
saying, “Where are you?”
The Lord is still walking amongst us in the garden of our heart. If you are a Christian and I presume that you are because you are reading this, this little article can be the voice of God calling you to come higher into the stratosphere of His glory and to be changed into the very likeness and glory of our King. This is our calling and destiny! In the book of Revelation the Lord Jesus is seen walking once again in the very middle of His people calling and beckoning them to open their hearts to His voice and be changed into His likeness and character.
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. Rev 1:12-13 (NASU)
Once again the man of God had to turn aside to look at the voice calling him. How much more do we have too? God is calling, but so few of us are responding to the call because we simply do not hear Him knocking because we are so busy doing other things and not seeking His face as we should be.
WHERE ARE YOU?
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Rev 3:20 (NASU)
Again the Lord is calling us to hear His voice. I believe this is the most profound things we are called to do as Christians, to seek the face of God until we are changed into His likeness. But because we all fail time after time in this endeavor, we just throw up our hands and give up, “Saying it is useless for me to even try!” Please let me encourage you, the fire of God’s glory is now going to fall in such a way on each of us that we are going to be changed in the twinkling of the eye. We will not even know or remember what it was like to fail! Get ready because He is coming to you personally. The veil that is between the spirit and soul is becoming so thin, that to reach God in spirit one must only turn their heart heaven ward to enter His presence of love.
God is asking each of us today, WHERE ARE YOU? I MISS YOU! For I have made a way for you to come to me daily, but where are you, why have you not come when I have paved the way for you with My blood to sit in My presence? His voice is still walking through the garden of every heart, every day calling us to Himself. He is calling out to mankind to, “COME UP HERE” and sit with me in heavenly places above all the clamber of the world and of your own heart.
As I write these words at the end of 2016 there has been many celebrity deaths that have shocked the world at their early passing. Many of their deaths have been tragic through drugs and foolish living. And my heart cries out, “could they not have come to Jesus and known His voice, forgiveness, and grace? The answer is a resounding, yes! I know that my Savior tried to reach them before they died. I think of Elvis who was a believer, but the trees of the garden of good and evil overcame his life rather than God, yet, it is well known that he loved God. Say what you will of Elvis, he changed the music of the world and the church, for good and for evil. We have defiantly seen the change of music in the church world since his death.
As a boy I knew God’s voice was calling me unto Himself, even though at the times I did not understand it, but I felt it. It was through a series of tragic events in my life that I knew that God was speaking to me. I lived in a town of 5000 people, yet I had at least 10 friends that died one way or another. After having several near death experiences myself I felt that God was calling me to Himself, so at the age of 19 I gave my heart to the Lord and He began to change my life very dramatically. To this day I wonder how many of these who died heard the voice of God calling them, but they just didn’t understand how to respond.
JESUS THE VOICE OF THE FATHER
Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you aren't mere words. I don't just make them up on my own. The Father who resides in me crafts each word into a divine act. John 14:10 (from THE MESSAGE)
For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure John 3:34 (NASU).
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 (NKJV).
Jesus Himself is the Word or the voice of the Father, but we at this point cannot make such a proclamation of ourselves, yet He can and does speak through us at times to speak to others even when we do not know it. We are His human flesh in the earth that God can and does speak through, but this is nothing to be proud of because as you know He can even speak through a donkey. “The Word became a human being and lived with us, and we saw his Sh’khinah, the Sh’khinah of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (CJB). The Word (Jesus) is the manifest glory of God, the Shekinah of the Father. Jesus is the Word (The Voice or communication) of the Father in the earth, and because He is now in us by the infilling of the Spirit of God He is able to speak through anyone of us as we yield ourselves to Him.
We the body of Jesus are the voice of God in the earth, Jesus the Word of God speaks through the sons of God, the ministers of flames of fire. The voice of heaven is the voice of the overcomer, it is the sound of many waters heard from the heart of God throughout the earth for those who have ears to hear. They will not be denied the attention of the church or of the world. Such Shekinah glory will be manifested and spoken through them that the nations will stand and take notice and will bow their knee to Jesus and seek His forgiveness and restoration. BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, (through the overcomers) and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. Rev 1:7 (NASU). Every eye will see Him and every ear will hear Him speaking to them individually calling them unto Himself. His voice never stops speaking, it continues in the spirit realm even after death and throughout eternity. His voice will not be denied forever and ever He keeps calling mankind unto Himself even after death. “For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.” 1 Peter 4:6 (NASU). His voice is and will be heard and not ignored forever.
BEING THE VOICE OF ANOTHER
He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Make straight the way of the Lord,"' as the prophet Isaiah said." John 1:23 (NKJV)
There is a popular TV program in the United States called, The Voice. It is a music singing talent show where the judge’s only turn around in their chair if they like the voice they are listening to. They do not judge by the appearance of the person singing but only what is coming out of their mouth. Moses and John turned to see the voice of God and their lives were changed forever just by the experience of hearing God’s voice. When Peter, James, and John heard the voice of God on the Mount of Transfiguration they were never the same. If you have come to Jesus as your Lord and Savior it is because you have turned aside to hear His voice calling you unto Himself. Just by hearing His voice for salvation our lives were and are changed forever, but the thing of it is, Jesus spoke through some other person to tell us about His saving grace. We can be and should be at times the voice of the Father to speak into the hearts of other people.
In Revelation chapter one we see Jesus, the voice, standing in the midst of the church to be the sound of many living waters to the people of the earth. We must open our mouth for others to see and hear Jesus speaking to them of His great love.
There has been times when a person has said to me, “You will never know how much your words have meant to me!” I personally did not know at the time that God wanted to use me as His voice to encourage another person, but God did! And many others have done the same for me over the years. Thank God!
John the Baptist was the voice of another, he did not speak for himself, but God. Many people left the city they were living in to walk out to the desert to hear what John had to say. Think about it for a minute. These people left their comfortable surroundings, food and fresh water to take a day’s walk into the dry, hot desert! But, why? Because the voice of God was speaking through a wild looking and funny dressing man that eats locus for lunch! What a spectacle for the people to see, but they came in droves because the manifest presence of God was there and He was speaking through this man.
In 2008 there was a great outpouring in Lakeland, Florida where 5 to 10 thousand people came a night from around the world because God was moving through a man named Todd Bentley. Todd was not much to look at in the natural and only wore a t-shirt and had many tattoos. He was criticized for his looks like I am sure John the Baptist was, but God didn’t care! And neither did many of us because God was moving and speaking through this man like I had never felt or seen before or after. My life was changed and so were countless numbers of people.
What we must be looking for is the SECOND VOICE of life, presence, and anointing that is coming through the person that God is using for His glory. The manifest presence of the Lord will be present as their words bring life and revelation to the hearers. Many times as we channel surf through Christian TV we wait and listen for the second voice of the Lord to be heard. But sad to say, it is hard to find the Lord’s voice speaking through many teachers on the TV, there are some, but few. When we sense the Lord’s presence we stop and absorb what the minister maybe saying or even singing and we are blessed.
Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps. Rev 14:1-2 (NASU)
This is the voice of the overcomer, it is heard and originated from the spirit realm of God to give life to the hearers. This is why Jesus said over and over, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” Rev 2:7 (NASU). Why? Because God is speaking, are we listening?
HIS VOICE REVERBURATES THROUGH TIME AND ETERNITY
Also I saw the holy city, New Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne say, “See! God’s Sh’khinah is with mankind, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and he himself, God-with-them, will be their God. Rev 21:2-3 (CJB)
God’s voice comes from the throne to introduce the bride of Christ to the world. God’s manifest Shekinah will now be among mortal people through a body of believers to manifest the likeness of God to a hurting world. Now, “The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come…" Rev 22:17 (NASU). Come to where? First we are to come to Jesus, then we are to “Come up here” higher into the realms of God to know and see God more clearly every day.
God’s voice is always calling out to us to come to Him throughout our life-time. From Genesis to Revelation we see the voice of God walking throughout the earth calling out to whosoever will come into My loving arms to receive life, peace, and grace. But we are the ones who must turn aside to see the voice, even as Moses and John had to turn to see the voice and to realize that God was standing in the midst of His people speaking to them.
Now if these great men of God had to turn aside to the voice speaking, how much more us? They received the invitation to “COME” will you be the voice of God and invite others to come? This is why Jesus says, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” Rev 2:7 (NASU). The Lord is not asking us to join a monastery, He is just asking, even pleading with us to come and spend time with Him so that we may become rich in spiritual substance of Himself. But are we listening and responding to His voice?
“…It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" Matt 4:4 (NASU)
The voice of God is the ongoing life of God, for it is our daily bread that causes us to grow into the image of Jesus. But we don’t just live out of what He has said, but what He is saying. God is speaking today, are we hearing? If not, ask Him to speak a little bit louder so that you might hear Him speak however He chooses. The Spirit and bride say, NOW IS THE TIME TO COME TO JESUS!
