GOING INTO THE HEART OF GOD

By Dan Luehrs

As I was waiting in the presence of the Lord one day He said to me, "Come into my heart." This phase caught me off guard because I had never heard of such an invitation before this. Then I heard Him say, "I came into your heart so that you might come into Mine!" It sounds kind of funny when we think of God having a heart, but He must have because we were created in His image and we have one. "Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, 'Because you have made your heart like the heart of God" (Ezekiel 28:6 NAS). God does have a heart that is pure love; this is where His glory and goodness flows from into all living things. His heart is our secret hiding place that we are called to dwell in and to spend time seeking to know Him more and to know what is on His heart as He shares with us-the friends of God.

When I think of a love relationship, I think of two hearts that are combined as one in their inter most sanctum of who they are, and where few are invited to come. This is when two lovers have intermingled each others heart and have taken down any walls and have become transparent to each other to be as close as two can be. This is what God is offering to us! King David knew of this and sought the heart of God with all of his heart. "He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will" (Acts 13:22 NAS). David had such a revelation to seek the heart of God, yet he was not yet permitted to enter it because Jesus had not yet paid the full price of sin for him to enter in without being killed. We must remember that God is spirit and we must be born of the Holy Spirit for us to enter into the heart of God that is spirit. This is why Jesus said, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (John 3:6 NAS). When we were born of the flesh through our parents we did not have access to the heart of God because we were still fleshly in mind. But when we gave our heart to Jesus He came into our heart as a spirit and we became spiritual people. Spiritual babies in Christ, but nevertheless spiritual in the likeness of God, now we must mature in the likeness of His Son, for He is the true, the mature spiritual man!

When we let someone into our heart we are giving them a place of intimacy, authority, and power over us to help shape our lives. When we do this, we have now become vulnerable to them and are open to great harm if they so chose to hurt us. This is why so many people will not fall in love again after their lover has cut them to the core of who they are. Any two people in love can tell you this after they broke up, because when you are in some ones heart you have the power to crush them and to bring great harm to their life. And it can take years to get over the loss of what they had, and some may never become fully healed in their lifetime with a gapping wound in their heart.

The question to me is why do we wound each other so, even as Christians we are not immune to this because we are not fully like God yet. And we know that the heart of man is desperately wicked and who can know its depths of darkness and sin? "The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it" (Jer 17:9 NAS)? Only God can understand the bottomless pit of sin that is in the heart of every man because He created the heart for Himself to abide in. Please understand that our heart is so massive that God who is greater than the universe can dwell there in His fullness, so how much sin could our heart hold? It is an endless mystery of wickedness! "The mystery of iniquity doth already workÖ" (2 Thess 2:7 KJV). Adam opened the door for all of mankindís heart to be opposed to Who and what God is and to be blinded by the most hideous darkness and evil through His rebellion to God. Now because of that, Jesus said the heart of man is full of wickedness.

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man" (Mark 7:21-23 NAS).

Thank God all is not lost there in the depths of sin and death. Jesus paid a price that we could not pay so that we could come into the depths of the heart of God. His invitation is open to all who will believe in Him and His death and resurrection and receive His salvation from a wicked heart. "Ö The Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God (the heart of God). For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God" (1 Cor 2:10-11 NAS).

God has given us an invitation to know His breadth, length, height, and depth until we have fully know His heart, which will take all the eternities of eternity to know! We have an exiting future ahead of us to fully know Him with all believers as one body! "May be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God" (Eph 3:18-19 NAS). By us seeking Jesus everyday with our whole heart we are on our way into the heart of God to know Him more as John did when he laid his head upon Jesusí breast at the Last Supper. How could we ever get bored with seeking God I do not know! I know that many people stop walking with Him because they are offended because He did not do something the way they thought He should. This is Satanís ploy to keep us from entering into the heart of God! The Lord has spoken this verse to me over and over throughout the years. "And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me" (Matt 11:6 NKJV). We must trust the heart of God fully to not be offended at Him when He allows things in our life that we do not understand. Certainly the children of Israel could not understand why God would lead them into a hot, waterless wilderness, but He did! And it was all for their good so that they would trust Him and get to know the heart of God Who had called them to be kings and priests of the kingdom of God.

GODíS PATTERN TABERNACLE

God will use wilderness experiences in all the lives of His children to mature them into His image and likeness. Jesus is our example to follow, so is John the Baptist, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David, Paul, and you and me! If we want to be a mature son there is no getting around it; we all must go through it if we desire to be overcomers in this life. How could we be an overcomer if we did not have anything to overcome to sit on the throne with Him? This is Godís way of preparing us for the throne that we are called to sit upon if we will stop our complaining and start worshipping through it all. God lead Israel into the wilderness so that they would be close to His heart and to reveal His nature to them through their sufferings, so in return they could help others going through the same thing, they were to camp in a circle around God! The tabernacle (the dwelling of God) literally dwelt among them with the most glorious fire of His presence upon the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies is the heart of God; this is where His glorious presence dwelt upon the Ark of the Covenant with the children of Israel, this is where Jesus entered as a forerunner for us to follow into the heart of God. Hallelujah!

"This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek" (Heb 6:19-20 NAS).

Listen to what the writer of Hebrews is saying, WE HAVE A HOPE! Which means, "An expectation of things to come for us as we follow on to know the Lord in His fullness." What are we to hope for? To enter into the Holy of Holies, which is the heart of God and to be transformed into His image. There we will be changed into His likeness in the twinkling of an eye, that is, those who press on to know the Lord. "I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:14-15 NAS). This is our goal line; this is our call to know the Lord in all His fullness.

Upon the mercy seat that sat on the Ark of the Covenant was the manifest presence of God, which is also called, "The Holy Chest." Our chest area is where our heart and lungs are protected by our rib cage. The Holy of Holies is where the breath and heart of God is, it had pillars of silver around about it with cherubimís sown into the veil to keep the priests from entering in. Only the high priest could enter in once a year to offer blood for the atonement of the sins of the people so that God could remain in their presence for another year. The very sound of breathing or air flowing from the Holy of Holies could be heard outside according to Ezekiel 10:5. "Moreover, the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when He speaks." The sound coming from the Holy of Holies was more than a faint sound that one would have to listen carefully for. It was like the voice of God! Not only could the manifestation of God be seen upon the tent as a cloud by day and fire by night, He was heard like a neighbor living next door with the lights on! God dwelt in the middle of His people as He does with us, only He lives in us! That alone should give us a new perspective on the fear of God and what it means to be a Believer in Jesus and how we carry Him everywhere that we go.

"Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle" (Ex 40:34-35 NAS).

The tabernacle in the wilderness was not just a type of mans heart with God in the midst of it, but it was also the heart of God in the middle of His people as they camped around Him. God wanted His people close to His heart, but He did not stop there, He wants us in His heart, for that is where the glory dwells! And who would not want to be there? "Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life" (Prov 4:23 AMP). The heart of God is our life source in the wilderness, it is the headwaters of His glory that spring forth eternal life, power, and glory to all of His creation. He wants His life flowing through us! But in order for this to come to pass we must be in His heart for the glory to flow in and through us to give life to a hurting world around us.

God wants us prepared for next great feast to come upon the church, called, (The Feast of Tabernacles) (See Lev. 23:34), which will be celebrated for all eternity within our hearts because we are the tabernacle that He will make His eternal habitation in. His glory will manifest through His church as He did in the wilderness only with much greater glory because that was only a shadow of things to come. My hearts prayer to God is for Him to come into my heart and sit on my throne and rule my heart, while at the same time He is inviting us to come into His heart to sit on the throne of His heart to rule the nations. That is amazing!

GODíS LIVING TABERNACLE

"In union (oneness with the bride) with him the whole building is held together, and it (the bride) is growing into a holy temple in union (oneness) with the Lord. Yes, in union with him, you yourselves are being built together into a spiritual dwelling-place for God" (Eph 2:21-22 CJB)!

There is no end to the kingdom of God; it will grow continually throughout eternity. (See Isaiah 9:7). When a person opens their heart to let Jesus in, they have just increased the kingdom and the more we allow Him to rule in our hearts the more His kingdom expanses in us until we realize that we are invited into the heart of God to seek its depths! The Bible tells us to seek first the kingdom, but arenít we to seek the King first? The answer is yes to both, because there is no separating the King from His kingdom! In a way we could say that God is growing just as we say someone has a growing family. The parents themselves are not growing bigger, but their seed is growing in the earth as did Abrahamís family. The only difference is that Godís temple is a spiritual one that will rule and reign over all in the very likeness of Jesus Christ throughout eternity. These will be know as the body of Christ, the bride, the sonís of God, and the overcomers. Those who rule and reign with Him are partakers of Godís glory (His heart) and are His eternal temple. "Ö Ye may become partakers of a divine natureÖ" (2 Peter 1:4 YLT). This is the upward call of God in Christ Jesus that Paul was writing about in Philippians 3:14. John the Revelator saw this temple in Revelation 3:12 when He wrote. "He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore." When John saw the New Jerusalem (The bride, body of Christ) coming down out of heaven he said, "And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple" (Rev 21:22 NAS). No temple? No earthly temple that is, because Jesus the Lamb of God has a bride that is one with Him and they are inseparable as the dwelling place of God.

As Jesus the head is, so will be His body because they are one. I once asked the Lord what He wanted me to do and He gave me a vision of a (Starfish,) I thought, what does that mean? I looked up the word starfish and found out that they have a very unique ability to multiply themselves. Most people know that when a starfish loses it leg it can grow out another one, but what most do not know is that the broken off leg becomes a new starfish altogether because its complete DNA to reproduce its self is in every part of it. That is what is in us! We are one with Jesus, His very DNA is life giving, He is a part of us and we have within ourselves the ability to multiply Godís seed in the earth by spreading the gospel into the hearts of people to expand the kingdom, which is the likeness of Jesus.

Where is Jesus now and Who is He? I know that He is in heaven at the right hand of the Father, but that is not completely true! We must take another look at the body of Christ in earth and in heaven, because there we will find Jesus. He is you and He is I, He is a man, a woman, and a child. That is where and who He is Ėthe Christ! "For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ" (1 Cor 12:12 NKJV). We must begin to recognize Him by the spirit in the hearts and lives of others in the body if we are going to come into the fullness of His glorious temple as He has designed us to be. For His eternal temple will not be anything less then God Himself in and through a people. We can no longer look at the outward appearance of the body and judge them or we will miss out on a great blessing of the revelation of Jesus through them, because we all have a part in Him that makes up the body. We will have to be very humble in order to receive from a child or someone that we may feel is inferior to us and may not be like us, nevertheless God will send them to help us on our way to full maturity.

WHERE HIS GLORY DWELLS

"That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man" (Eph 3:16 NAS).

If the Holy of Holies is the heart of God and the center of His throne, then where do we want to be? If His throne is headwaters of the river of life that is flowing and creating life, where would we want to be? We can daily enter His heart through the spirit of true worship, which is intimacy with God as our spirit man is fellowshipping with Him while we are waiting in His presence. He will then begin to share with us His most innermost secrets, which He holds for His favored ones that sit with Him. "The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant" (Ps 25:14 NAS). We only share our deepest secrets with those who are closest to us, so why would God be any different? This I know, I only want to be where His glory dwells and His revelation of truth flows like a river in and through me.

Notice the first sentence in the verse above. "That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory." To grant means = "A gift of legal rights or privileges." God wills to grant us His riches of His glory, which means, all the goodness of God will pass before us and in us, much like what happened to Moses on the holy mountain. If we want this bad enough, that is to seek Him daily and to love Him with all of our hearts, He will open the passageway to His heart. God will not pass us by; He wants to fill us with all of His glorious abundance if we will just spend our time on what really matters in the end. By doing this we will know the pulse of God and know what is on His heart, we can then enter into intercession for the things of God in any situation. Those who are faithful to do this will become the manifestation of Jesus on the earth!

Listen to what the verse is saying, God will strengthen us with power through His Spirit in our inner man as we are in His glory! That is, if we will spend time in His manifest presence, we will then receive the riches of His spiritual power to live life in His strength and not in our weakness. But first we must take the time to seek His face! We know from Scripture that Jesus was strengthened twice by the glory of God through the angels that had visited Him while He was suffering greatly. "Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him" (Luke 22:43 NAS). Angels come from the very presence and glory of God and radiate Godís glory from themselves much like if you and I would go into a smoke filled room and our clothes and hair would reek with the smell. So does Godís glory stay upon the angels and us as we wait in His presence we become saturated with the glory of God, which strengthens us and those we minister to. Several times in my life I have felt the presence of angels by my side strengthening me so that I would not get overly discouraged and quit or have a nervous break down. God is faithful to help us whether we sense Him or not. It is Godís glory in us, which gives us the strength we so need on a daily basis so that we stay faithful to Him.

So tell me again, where are the riches of God? In His glory! "And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Phil 4:19 NAS). If you have needs that are unmet may I challenge you to seek the presence of God and have them met in faith as you draw on Godís presence. Our needs can include companionship, finances, encouragement, and the list could go on and on. God wants to meet your need! But we must come into His glory if we are expecting Him to do so. He made this promise unto us in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you." It does not get any easier than this! Donít seek the ways of the world first, but seek the heart of God and He will supply whatever you have need of in His perfect timing.

WE BECOME ONE IN HIS GLORY

"For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God" (John 5:18 NAS).

When we call someone our father and mother we are saying that we are equal to them because we were born of them. Just as a dog could not call a human its father, so we could not call a cat our son. And so it is with Jesus, He could not lie and say He was not born of His spiritual Father, but was equal to Him, being born of His Spirit making Him a spiritual man. But the same is true of us! We who are born of His Spirit can call Him our Father because we have inherited His spiritual DNA making us like God in spirit. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (John 3:6-7 NAS). Equal in spirit form, but not in power, omniscience, or glory until Jesus is glorified in us, which is the hope of glory that we all are waiting for. As the Father is greater than the Son is, so the Son will always be greater than His brethren in power and glory.

"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men" (Phil 2:5-7 NAS)

Jesus humbled Himself and came in the likeness of men, but we who go on to perfection go from a humble human form into the God likeness of Jesus on the throne of power and glory. "Nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection" (Luke 20:36 NKJV). Oh what a marvelous God we have! Do you have any idea who and what you are with Jesus living in you? Jesus is the resurrection and the life of God that makes us partakers (partners) of the nature of God, which is LIFE. "For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust" (2 Peter 1:4 NAS). As we claim these promises of being sons of God and seeking the heart of God daily we will come into our own that the Father has promised to us. Now is not the time to quit following God but to press on and upward to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
