GODS MYSTERY CHRIST IN YOU
By Dan Luehrs
"To whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27 NAS).
The last time I checked, my bodily organs were inside of me: meaning they are a part of me. They are mine. So it is with Jesus Christ, He also is inside of me, just as and He is in you if you have received Jesus into your heart. When people think of Christ they think of one person, Jesus. This is truth. But to be biblically New Testament, the Christ is a multi-member body. "For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:12). Do you see it? So also is Christ, one body! "Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it" (1 Corinthians 12:27). Yes, Jesus is the Christ, the anointed one, but we are one within Him.
The fullness of God/Jesus is in the body of Christ now! Do you think that's blasphemy? Listen to the word of God, "And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Ephesians 1:22-23 NAS). We as His body have received everything that belongs to the Head (Jesus); we are one together in Him. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3 KJV). Because we are a part of Him, the Father has bestowed upon us "all" the spiritual blessings of His kingdom. "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom" (Luke 12:32 NAS). We cannot even begin to comprehend the kindness and riches that our God has given us! Paul called them, "… the unfathomable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8 NAS).
I could write about many of these unfathomable riches of God like: spiritual strength, understanding, knowledge, and the fear of God. But I just want to write about one of these seven spirits of God that is given unto us (see Is.11:2), and that is "wisdom." Solomon said, "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7 NIV). "Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your intimate friend" (Proverbs 7:4 NAS). Jesus is wisdom; He has been given to us by the Father, "But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God" (1 Corinthians 1:30 NAS). We, as a part of His body, have been given wisdom as our inheritance to be our guide and spiritual leader. We need this gift now more than ever if we are to climb to the summit of Mount Zion and changed into His likeness. We must continually abide in His presence daily and stay filled with the Holy Spirit for this to come about.
The definition I would give for wisdom is: "to know the end from the beginning." In other words, while God is all-knowing, when man creates and builds something all kinds of testing and trial runs are done to see if it works properly; by this they get wisdom about what they are building. But God knows it all and does not need to have tests and trial runs. When He does something it works correctly the first time! "The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens" (Proverbs 3:19 NAS). The first time God does something He makes it complete!
"And in Him you have been made complete…" (Colossians 2:10 NAS). There is only one thing complete in the entire universe and that is God Himself. In Jesus we have been made complete. There is nothing lacking in us because He is in us and He is complete! God does not have to add anything to us through trial runs; we have been made complete in Him since the foundation of the earth; including all wisdom being within us. "Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence" (Ephesians 1:8 KJV). How unsearchable are His ways! His wisdom is to be made known through the church to all powers and authorities in heaven and earth. "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 3:10 NIV). Satan had won a great battle over mankind in the garden, but it only lasted a short time until Jesus triumphed over him on the cross. The cross was God's display of power and great wisdom. "But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory" (1 Corinthians 2:7-8 NAS).
When we realize Who lives inside of us we will realize that we are partakers (sharers) of the Divine nature. "For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust" (2 Peter 1:4 NAS). "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9 NAS). In us, His body, dwells all the fullness of Deity! If Jesus is Deity, and He is, then how could we not have complete "fullness" of Divinity in us? "You have been given fullness in Christ, (the fullness of God)!" (Colossians 2:10 NIV). These truly are precious and magnificent promises of God that we must believe, not to puff us up, but to humble ourselves before Him! If this were not true, calling ourselves the sons of God would truly be blasphemy. We, like Jesus, would be crucified by the religious for calling ourselves the sons of God, having made ourselves equal to Him! "For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God" (John 5:18 NIV).
We are now filled with the fullness of God because Jesus is God, but He has not manifested Himself in fullness yet! Something that is filled to the top cannot be filled with anything more! "And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:19 NAS). The Greek word for "fullness" is "filled!" The Greek text reads this way, "To know and the which passeth knowledge, love of Christ, filled with all the fullness of God." The words "may be filled" or "might be filled" is not in the original Greek writings. Until I read this in the Greek I used to think that one day we would be filled with the fullness of God. But according to Paul's writings we are NOW FILLED with the fullness of God because Jesus is the fullness of God! "For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him" (Colossians 1:19 NAS). Even though the fullness of God has not yet been manifested through us in the natural, we have received His fullness in spirit where we are seated in the heavenlies with Jesus.
Read this next verse very carefully, "That their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:2-3 NAS). Now read verse two in the Greek, "That might be comforted, hearts their being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to acknowledgement of the mystery of God, Christ." The mystery of God is Christ; and all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him! But who is Christ as we have proven in scripture? The body! Jesus the Head is not separate from His body; we are one. All wisdom is already in us because He is wisdom! No wonder why Paul calls this a great mystery, because our minds cannot comprehend our high calling to be one in Him even as a man and his wife are one (see Eph. 5:25-32). "That is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations; but has now been manifested to His saints" (Colossians 1:26 NAS). We are not only privileged to know this, but also to be His bride and partake fully of Him!
"That by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief… "To be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel" (Ephesians 3:3, 6 NAS).
Our heart's cry now is to see the fullness of Jesus manifested through us as He has promised. "When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory (in fullness) (Colossians 3:4 NAS).
